STARKVILLE, Miss.—Works by five art majors in Mississippi State’s College of Architecture, Art and Design are being featured in a major international publication.
Based in New York City, Creative Quarterly: The Journal of Art and Design showcases graphic design, illustration, photography and fine art works of talented students and professionals worldwide.
A watercolor self-portrait titled “Bird Eyes” by Anna K. “Katie” Erickson of Madison, a sophomore art/graphic design and photography major, took first-place honors in the Fine Art/Student category. It will appear in CQ’s summer issue.
Erickson’s “Fragile,” winner of the 2016 Mississippi Collegiate Arts Competition Juror’s Award in Painting, also received a runner-up award in the same category.
In CQ’s most recent issue, senior art/fine arts major Jillian N. Wilson of Ocean Springs was a runner-up in the Fine Art/Student category.
The issue also includes creations of Kaiyla T. Barber of Paulding, Austin R. Grove of Clinton and Jordan R. Hankinson of Collierville, Tennessee. All senior art/graphic design majors, they received runner-up honors in the Advertising/Student category.

Part of the College of Architecture, Art and Design, MSU’s art department is the longtime home of the Magnolia State’s largest undergraduate studio art program.
