STARKVILLE, Miss. —Theatre ݮƵis debuting a new “Studio Maroon” series Thursday-Saturday [Feb. 14-16] with 7:30 p.m. performances of “27 Wagons Full of Cotton” and “Author’s Voice” in Mississippi State’s McComas Hall main stage theater.
General admission tickets are $7 and can be purchased in advance at or at the door prior to each performance.
Cody Stockstill, assistant professor and theatre concentration coordinator in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Communication, said Studio Maroon gives students hands-on experience to oversee all aspects of theatre performances, including design, directing and production.
“Not only are our students providing an evening’s entertainment, but also audiences have the chance to see the students’ work as developing theatre artists,” Stockstill said.
A classic Tennessee Williams one-act play set in the 1930’s Mississippi Delta, “27 Wagons Full of Cotton” follows three individuals as they deal with chaos suddenly thrown into their lives. Written in 1946, the play premiered on Broadway in 1955.
Richard Greenberg’s “The Author’s Voice” is a modern comedy revolving around an up-and-coming author and the gnome he keeps captive to serve as his ghostwriter. Reminiscent of Cyrano de Bergerac, “The Author’s Voice” originally was written in 1987.
