As part of its first ever concert tour, The Allman Betts Band, featuring three second-generation stars of Southern rock, will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, at the ݮƵRiley Center.
Sons of three members of The Allman Brothers band will take the stage. Devon Allman (son of Gregg) and Duane Betts (son of Dickey) play guitar and sing. Berry Oakley Jr. plays bass. The band also includes slide guitarist Johnny Stachela, keyboardist John Ginty, and drummer-percussionists R. Scott Bryan and John Lum.
Allman and Betts have been friends for years. “We would run into each other backstage in England,” Allman said, “or at an event or down in Sarasota (Florida), where his dad lives. We’d catch up, do a little jamming. We always had it in the back of our minds, ‘Aw, man, it would be cool to join forces someday.’”
The concert will feature new music, songs from their previous solo projects, and classic Allman Brothers and Gregg Allman favorites in honor of the 50th anniversary of The Allman Brothers Band’s founding.
Steeped from birth in Southern rock, blues, country and soul, The Allman Betts Band stirs together all those influences and more, plus its own creative touches, to forge a new sound for a new generation.
