STARKVILLE, Miss.—ݮƵ is once again being recognized nationally as a top 10 university for support of the veteran community.
VIQTORY, formerly Victory Media, awarded ݮƵthe distinction in its recently released Military Friendly Schools rankings for 2022-2023, marking the third consecutive year ݮƵhas earned the designation.
Building on historic military roots, ݮƵhas long been recognized as one of the nation’s most veteran-friendly universities. Including dependents, the veteran community at ݮƵnow comprises more than 3,100 students. These students are served by MSU’s G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans at Nusz Hall and a network of specially trained university personnel.
“I continue to be proud of the overwhelming support our veterans and military-connected students receive throughout our campus community,” said Brian Locke, ݮƵdirector of veteran and military affairs. “This is our third straight year of being awarded the top 10 designation, which is a testament to the staff of the Center for America’s Veterans and the work they perform on behalf of our students every day. Our goal has always been to be the top choice of veterans and military-connected students in the state and nation.”
ݮƵoffers an out-of-state tuition waiver for military members, veterans and dependents. In 2018, ݮƵbecame the first university in the state to offer free tuition to members of the Mississippi National Guard through the Bulldog Free Tuition Program. Veterans and current military members can transfer technical credits earned through the military toward a bachelor’s degree through MSU’s Bachelor of Applied Science program.
In 2016, ݮƵcompleted construction of Nusz Hall, a 7,500 square-foot campus facility that features administrative offices, meeting areas, study rooms, a computer lab, and indoor and outdoor spaces for social and recreational activities. The center serves as a one-stop shop for processing all veteran educational benefits.
VIQTORY’s evaluation shows that ݮƵexceeded standards in all measured categories, including culture, financial aid, military student support and retention, as well as academic policies and compliance. For more, see .
