First Generation Scholars Celebration from Nov. 7-11 to be eventful week at MSU

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s Division of Access, Diversity and Inclusion and Office of Student Support and Outreach are hosting several events next week to honor all ݮƵfirst-generation students, faculty and staff. Universities and other agencies across the nation celebrate first-gen students, faculty and staff annually on Nov. 8 and highlight their important contributions in society.

First Generation Scholars Celebration—Monday [Nov. 7], 2-3 p.m., “First-Gen Matters,” Fowlkes Auditorium. A chance to listen to a discussion debunking the first-generation stigma in support of first-generation student success.

—Monday [Nov. 7], 6-7 p.m., “Take Credit for Your Responsibility,” McCool Hall 232. This discussion covers how to budget, manage and discover financial independence.

—Tuesday [Nov. 8], 11 a.m.-2 p.m., “National First-Gen Week Kickoff,” Drill Field. Free T-shirts and other gifts will be given to students who identify as first-generation in celebration of National First-Gen Day.

—Wednesday [Nov. 9], 7-9 p.m., “Movie Night,” Fowlkes Auditorium. This will be a showing and discussion of the movie “Personal Statement.”

—Thursday [Nov. 10], 11 a.m.-2 p.m., “First-Gen Mixer,” Ballroom U of the Colvard Student Union. A mixer for first-generation faculty, staff and students to enjoy free food and drinks in honor of First-Gen Week.

—Friday [Nov. 11], 1-4 p.m., “First-Gen Tailgate,” Office of Student Support and Outreach Lawn by the University Academic Advising Center or Morgan Avenue. A chance to interact with other students, play games and win prizes.
