STARKVILLE, Miss.—ݮƵ sophomore Jackson Crawford of Pass Christian is the winner of the ݮƵAlumni Association’s 18th tuition drawing.

Crawford, who is majoring in physics, will receive free, full-time tuition (12 credit hours) for the 2023 spring semester.

“This scholarship won’t just help me out, but also my parents because they are helping me pay for my college experience, for which I am extremely grateful,” said Crawford. “With the added support, I am looking forward to being able to participate in other events and activities on campus and around the community.”

The announcement of his winning ticket came as a surprise to Crawford, who was unaware his parents had purchased tickets for the tuition drawing.

“My dad bought five tickets in my name with no aspirations of winning, but mainly to support the Alumni Association,” said Crawford. “If it wasn’t for my dad’s generosity, I never would have had this chance.”

Crawford’s ticket was one of more than 4,000 tickets sold by the Alumni Delegates—the association’s student organization—offering ݮƵstudents a chance to win one semester of free in-state tuition. Eligible students include any undergraduate enrolled full time at the university. This semester, the Alumni Delegates raised more than $17,000 from tickets purchased by parents of eligible students.

Jeff Davis, executive director of the Alumni Association, said the program has become a proud tradition for the Alumni Delegates over the years.

“The tuition drawing serves as a way for our delegates to positively influence the college experience of their fellow students, while also extending MSU’s reach among parents. The additional funds raised generate an impact that is broader than the drawing itself, as it ensures support for scholarships and priority programs within our association,” said Davis.

Founded in 1980, the Alumni Delegates is a diverse group of students serving as liaisons between the 144-year-old institution and its more than 158,000 living graduates. Members assist with organizational programs and activities on behalf of the association, such as football tailgate gatherings, class reunions and the association’s annual awards banquet and leadership conference.

The ݮƵAlumni Association anticipates ticket sales in the upcoming spring for the drawing of a fall 2023 winner.
