International Education Week: Nov. 18-22

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State is recognizing International Education Week Nov. 18-22. IEW is a joint initiative between the Department of State, Department of Education and higher education institutions to highlight the benefits of international education and worldwide exchange, including international students, study abroad and cultural exchange.

The International Institute, working with the Office of Prestigious External Scholarships, Career Center, Graduate School, Mitchell Memorial Library, and Fresh Food Co., will coordinate several campus events celebrating IEW, including:

—Nov. 18, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., International Institute Walker Hall Open House, Walker Hall, Room 235. Tour the International Institute’s new location and learn about the International Services Office, Office of Study Abroad, English Language Institute, international research and on-campus passport acceptance facility.

—Nov. 18, 2 p.m., Ice Cream with Philip Moss, Walker Hall, Room 235. Moss, assistant director of international recruitment, invites ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵinternational students for ice cream and conversations.

—Nov. 18, 4 p.m., Leveraging Your Study Abroad Experience to Further Your Career, Old Main Academic Center, Room 3110. The ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵCareer Center’s session will advise students on presenting study abroad experience for résumés, job interviews or graduate school.

—Nov. 18, 6 p.m., Interfaith Dinner and Dialogue, Memorial Hall, Coskrey Auditorium. The Holmes Cultural Diversity Center and Interfaith Council host a conversation over dinner about different worldviews and religious and spiritual identities.

International Education Week: Nov. 18-22

—Nov. 19, 5:30 p.m., Global Talks: The International Experience Storytime, Old Main Academic Center, Room 1220. This HCDC event facilitates communication with international faculty and staff through a panel discussion. Students can ask questions and learn about the journeys of participants who have transitioned from being international students to professional roles with the university.

—Nov. 19, 6-8 p.m., Global Trivia, McCool Hall, Room 225. Study Abroad Ambassadors host trivia to test students’ knowledge of travel hacks and world cultures.

—Nov. 20, 3 p.m., Optional Practical Training Workshop, Old Main Academic Center, Room 1030. International Services Office provides international students with information about postgraduate options, including OPT work authorization.

—Nov. 20, 6 p.m., Global Night, Colvard Student Union Ballroom. International Student Advisory Board and Holmes Cultural Diversity Center’s trademark annual event celebrates all cultures, ideas and interests encompassed within the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵstudent body. The event invites students, faculty and staff to an evening of cultural exploration, performances, food and connections.

—Nov. 21, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Conversation Partners Recruitment Table, Colvard Student Union, first floor. ELI staff recruits conversation partners for the spring semester. Conversation partners are paired with ELI students to help them improve their mastery of the English language and build connections on campus.

—Nov. 21, 1:30 p.m., Boren, Critical Language and Fulbright UK Scholarship Session with the Office of Prestigious External Scholarships, Walker Hall, Room 235. Office of Prestigious External Scholarships presents three opportunities for students to continue their study and travel abroad through various national and international programs.

—Nov. 21, 4 p.m., Study Abroad Photo Contest Reception, McCain Hall, Room 190. The Office of Study Abroad showcases student submissions to the annual photo contest, capturing the wonder of their experiences abroad. Join to see the world through students’ eyes and celebrate the winners.

—Nov. 21, 5 p.m., The Flavor of Culture: Where Cooking Classes and Culture Meet, Test Kitchen in Moore Hall. This event explores the vibrant connection between culture and cuisine. This interactive cooking class helps participants discover how cultural influences shape cuisine.

—Nov. 22, 6 p.m., International Movie Night, HCDC. HCDC hosts a film screening of an international movie with popcorn, snacks and beverages.

—Nov. 23, 11 a.m., International Education Week Tailgate, Lloyd-Ricks Building lawn. International Institute caps off IEW by inviting international students to tailgate before ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵfootball’s home game against the University of Missouri.
